Registered Dental Hygienist

We are currently seeking a Registered Dental Hygienist in the Alderson, WV area. 

Place of Performance: The Registered Dental Hygienist services will be performed on-site in the Health Services Department at the Federal Prison Camp Alderson located in Alderson, WV.

Qualified candidates will be expected to submit the following:

  • Registered Dental Hygienist certification / diploma

  • Proof of immunizations

Education and Experience:

  • Candidate is required to be certified/licensed as a Dental Hygienist in any State and must submit photocopies of their license and/or board certification.
  • Dental radiology certification, anesthesia certification and CPR certification are also required.
  • In addition, a minimum of three years of experience is preferred.

Schedule:

  • Work hours may vary depending on the need of the institution. Shifts will typically take place between the hours of 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM. The shift will be up to 8 sessions per day, with a thirty (30) minute unpaid lunch period, if applicable, Monday through Friday, exclusive of Federal holidays.

Description of Duties:

  • Assists Dental Officer in dental specialty sections: restorative, oral surgery, periodontics, prosthetics, and examinations.
  • Retrieve patient's records and escorts patients to proper dental specialty section; seats and prepares patient for attending Dental Officer
  • Assists Dental Officer by preparing dental instruments, essential materials, drugs, and medications
  • Passes instruments, retracts tissues, irrigates oral cavity, and operates aspirator
  • Observes patient's responses, and assists patient for dismissal from the Dental Clinic
  • Gives instructions for subsequent dental appointments
  • Makes necessary entries on dental treatment records (both electronic and paper records)
  • Prepares dental treatment room for the next patient
  • Assists in the treatment of emergency cases.
  • Provides dental health education
  • Charting for dental screening exams
  • Preparation of patients for periodontal surgery
  • Dental and periodontal charting
  • Places temporary fillings
  • Prepares places, and removes packs
  • Places and removes rubber dams
  • Maintains dental equipment
  • Cleans, sharpens, and sterilizes instruments
  • Performs daily inspection of equipment and makes minor repairs
  • Reports defective equipment, or utilizes corrective action
  • Prepares entries for patient's records
