Board Certified/Eligible Interventional Radiology Physician Services (1099)

Pay rate: $285.00 per hour (1099). 

Duration: One year contract.
Location: James J. Peters Healthcare System – Bronx VAMC 130 West Kingsbridge Road Bronx, NY 10468.

Job Description:

Work schedule: 

VA business hours: The James J Peters Medical Center Interventional Radiology Section is open Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm. The IR department provides service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with on-site clinical hours and on-call emergency coverage.

  • Patients must be seen by the Physicians on-site at the facility in a timely manner in accordance with VA Rules and Regulations on clinical wait times and consult/order completion.
  • Physicians shall be available and present in the Interventional Radiology department during normal James J Peters Medical Center Interventional Radiology clinic hours, James J Peters Medical Center which will be established, and may be revised, as deemed appropriate for patient care. The minimum number of Physicians to be onsite daily is one (1). Routine clinic hours are 8:00 am-4:30 pm. Routine clinic hours must be extended if there is a clinical need for interventional Radiology services. Physicians shall report at a minimum of fifteen minutes prior to starting of each shift scheduled.

Off-hours coverage: Physicians must be available on-call during all hours when the James J Peters Medical Center Interventional Radiology Section is closed, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

  • Physicians must always be available for phone consultations with VA residents and Physicians.
  • On-call providers must be available within 15 minutes by phone and on-site within 60 minutes.

Board certified/eligible Interventional Radiology Physicians qualified to perform:

  • Abdominal/GU.
  • Breast Imaging.
  • Cardiovascular.
  • General Radiology.
  • Interventional Radiology.
  • Musculoskeletal.
  • Neuroradiology.

Services provided: Shall provide Board Certified /Board Eligible Abdominal/GU, Breast Imaging, Cardiovascular, General, Interventional, Musco skeletal, Neuroradiology Radiology services on site in accordance with the specifications contained herein to beneficiaries of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the James J. Peters VA Medical Center. The VA Radiology Services follow the standards & guidelines set forth by American College of Radiology (ACR). The Radiologist providing onsite Abdominal/GU, Breast Imaging, Cardiovascular, General, Interventional, Musco skeletal, Neuroradiology radiologist services shall provide services that meet or exceed the American College of Radiology Guidelines.

Technical proficiency: Shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently. Shall provide documents upon request to verify current and ongoing competency, skills, certification and/or licensure related to the provision of care, treatment and/or services performed. Shall provide verifiable evidence of all educational and training experiences including any gaps in educational history for all Physicians.

Direct patient care: Estimated 82% of the time involved in direct patient care. Shall be responsible for providing 2,080 hours of on-site clinical Interventional Radiology procedures, 6,760 hours of after-hour on-call emergency Interventional Radiology coverage including nights, weekends and holidays.

Scope of care: Physicians shall be responsible for providing Interventional Radiology procedures, including, but not limited:

  • Angiography.
  • Cryoblation.
  • Balloon angioplasty/stent placement.
  • Line insertion.
  • Chemoembolization.
  • IVC filters.
  • Cholecystostomy.
  • Kychoplasty.
  • Drain insertions.
  • Nephrostomy placement.
  • Embolization.
  • Radiologically.
  • Gastrostomy.
  • Thrombolysis.
  • Dialysis access & related interventions.
  • Biopsy.
  • TIPS placement.
  • Radiofrequency ablation/ Microwave ablation.
  • Biliary intervention.

Y90 Radioembolization Clinic: Physicians shall be present on time for any scheduled clinics as documented by physical presence in the clinic at the scheduled start time.

Consultation responsibilities: Physicians shall provide consultation with and instruction to referring Physicians regarding appropriate indications for interventional radiologic procedures so that the most expeditious and clinically appropriate work-up can be done. Physicians shall determine the appropriate course of treatment and communicate in person or by phone with the referring clinicians.

  • Shall provide review of consultations/orders and next-day patient cases for minimum of two hours daily.
  • Shall provide post-procedure evaluation and follow-up and clinical consultation regarding complications of interventional radiologic procedures.

Medications: Shall follow all established medication policies and procedures. No sample medications shall be provided to patients.

Discharge education: Provide discharge education and follow up instructions that are coordinated with the next care setting for all emergency department patients.

Patient safety compliance and reporting: Follow all established patient safety and infection control standards of care. Physicians shall make every effort to prevent medication errors, falls, and patient injury caused by acts of commission or omission in the delivery of care. All events related to patient injury, medication errors, and other breeches of patient safety shall be documented in the medical record of those impacted and disclosed to the patient or surrogate. As soon as practicable (but within 24 hours) Physicians shall notify supervisor of incident and submit an entry in the VA Patient Safety Reporting System, following up with supervisor as required or requested.

Qualifications:

Staff/Facility license: Physicians shall have a current license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia) when services are performed onsite on VA property. All licenses held by the key personnel shall be full and unrestricted licenses. Physicians who have current, full and unrestricted licenses in one or more states, but who have, or ever had, a license restricted, suspended, revoked, voluntarily revoked, voluntarily surrendered pending action or denied upon application will not be considered for the purposes of this requirement.

Board certification: All Physicians shall be Board Certified /Board Eligible in Interventional Radiology per the American Board of Radiology (http://www.theabr.org/). All continuing education courses required for maintaining certification must be always kept up to date.
