Diener Specialist (1099)

Pay rate : $32.00/1099

Duration: 1 year contract.

Locations: VAMC Robley Rex Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) (also known as the Louisville VAMC) located at 800 Zorn Avenue Louisville, KY 40206.

Schedule:

  • VA Business Hours/Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm.
  • Shall be available for consultation as needed and present in laboratory during normal laboratory hours, and may be revised, as deemed appropriate for patient care by the Chief of Staff, or designee. Currently, normal clinic hours are Monday–Friday 8:00am 4:30pm. The Diener Specialist may be called to assist in autopsies during nights and weekends, if necessary.

Job Description:

Technical Proficiency 

  • Shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the government's requirements, including the ability to speak, understand, read, and write English fluently. 
  • Shall provide documents upon request of the CO/COR to verify current and ongoing competency, skills, certification and/or licensure related to the provision of care, treatment and/or services performed. 
  • Shall have knowledge of professional care theories, principles, practices, and procedures to perform assignments of pathology patient/critically ill patient population. 
  • Shall demonstrate knowledge of growth and development, and pathophysiology of disease processes. 
  • Shall provide verifiable evidence of all educational and training experiences including any gaps in educational history for all contract provider(s) and Contractor's pathologist(s) shall be responsible for abiding by the Facility's Medical Staff By-Laws, rules, and regulations (referenced herein) that govern medical staff behavior.
  • Shall provide a diener to assist pathologist with autopsy procedures including set up, opening body cavities, closing body cavities, and clean up.
  • Diagnoses should be completed within the published turnaround times established by The Joint Commission (TJC) and VA standards.
  • Lab tests shall be performed Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm excluding federal holidays.

Diener Services

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in chemistry, physiology, biology, biochemistry, nursing, health education, or a related field. He/she shall possess experience as a surgical assistant, autopsy assistant, laboratory assistant, radiology technician, or similar position through which they have attained knowledge in human anatomy, use of surgical instruments, and aseptic techniques/or experience as an Autopsy Technician. 
  • Certification as an Autopsy Technician or equivalent experience. 
  • Certifications and/or licensure, including 'grandfathered' from accredited programs may be substituted for educational and experience requirements.
