Phlebotomist Technician-Clinical Laboratory
Pay rate: $22.50 hr
Company: Mike O’Callaghan Military Medical Center (MOMMC) Las Vegas Blvd N, Nellis AFB
Schedule: Monday–Friday between the hours of 6:00am and 7:00pm. Shifts will normally be scheduled for a 9-hour period, to include an uncompensated 60-minute lunch break.

Education:
- Phlebotomy Certification
- Graduate from a medical phlebotomist-training Program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) or Educational prog am acceptable to the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) is required. Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) is recommended. Certifications must be through American Heart Association or American Red Cross guidelines. Member must present proof of current certification(s) through American Health Association. Computer-based training does not constitute fulfilling the training requirements.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Collect specimens and decipher the best method for drawing blood samples from patients; ages range from infant to geriatric with varying health statuses. The standard is 10 patients per hour.
- Provides appropriate verbal/written instructions to patient's regarding sample collection.
- Standard is to give instructions 100% of the time.
- Perform all tasks using appropriate techniques to assure specimen integrity and positive identification throughout laboratory processes.
- Transport specimen samples to appropriate department.
- Check in, document, order, and maintain appropriate electronic medical information that support the hard copy medical record by utilizing the approved Laboratory Information System. The standard is to provide 100% accurate and 100% reliable and confidential results, to the authorized facility ordering or using the results.
- Adherence to Infection Control, Personal Protective Equipment, and facility standard operating procedures 100% of the time. Standard operating procedures shall be reviewed within 5 days of assignment.
- Complete and maintain standardized training which demonstrates competency to perform each job functions.
- Commit to perform only those tasks for which documented training has been completed.
- Provide instruction and training, following designation of Preceptor/Instructor status, to all laboratory personnel or other MTF staff members as required.
- Utilize approved avenues to communicate inventory levels and obtain supplies.
- Perform inventory/expiration date checks.
- Treat all staff members and patients with dignity, respect, and in a professional manner at all times. Internal and external customer complaints are monitored.
- Specimen/central processing responsibilities.
- Specimens pour-offs/aliquoting.
- Relaying and faxing lab result.
- Scheduling phlebotomy appointments.
- Pulling reports for QA.
