NEEDED: Phlebotomist
LOCATION: 2225 Haley Barbour Parkway Yazoo City, Mississippi 39194
SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, not to exceed 40 hours per week
QUALIFICATIONS:
- US Citizen
- At a minimum, the contractor shall have valid certification to practice in the state of Mississippi as a Medical Assistant, Laboratory Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician or Phlebotomist.
- Must have graduated from an accredited school or program for phlebotomy.
- Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Resume: Must show experience with specimen collection, packaging and shipment to referral laboratories with knowledge of maintaining appropriate records and a minimum of one year of experience as a phlebotomist.
- Must provide a copy of all diplomas and/or certificates to support the stated qualification.
- Must have knowledge of routine office related duties including working knowledge of computers, word processing programs and be able to type.
- Possess the ability to file various documents in chronological order.
- Possess good organizational skills, good interpersonal relationship skills and be able to work effectively with the medical staff.
JOB DUTIES:
- Assist the Physician, Physician Assistant, and/or Nurse with patient flow in a clinic setting by measuring the patient’s vital signs and weight and scanning laboratory results in the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
- Organize, schedule, and perform laboratory studies, specimen collection and process within the Health Service Unit, to include A&O in-processing, DNA per procedure, vaccine programs and PPD updates.
- Prepare and ensure specimens are packed and transported according to the BPA or BOP Reference Lab and document per Health Services Unit Laboratory Procedures.
- Ensure that lab requests are completed properly, and all reports are returned from the BPA lab, provider notified, log results in as received, follow up appropriately, and file results in lab and medical record.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of the Health Services Manual and Unit Procedures necessary to accomplish the mission described herein, ensuring that the Laboratory Procedure Manual is updated accordingly.
- Assist the Health Service Administrator (HSA) or his/her designee in the coordination of BOP and Contract Reference Lab contact, CLIA re-certification, maintenance of equipment and notification of needed supplies.
- Assist the HSA and Clinical Director with writing and implementing policies that deal with the laboratory program.
