Title: Therapeutic Radiation Therapist (1099)
Pay rate: $70.00 hr/1099
Duration: 1 year.
Location: VA Puget Sound Health Care System (Seattle VAMC), located at 1660 S Columbian Way, Seattle, WA 98108
Hours of operation:
- Regular hours of operation will be from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with a 30-minute lunch break.
Duties and Responsibilities for Therapeutic Radiation Therapist (TRT):
Patient Treatment and Scheduling:
- Treat approximately 15-25 patients per day in the clinic.
- Prioritize tasks and schedule patients to optimize treatment times while maintaining flexibility for emergency cases.
Operational Procedures:
- Perform warm-up procedures, normal treatment operations, and emergency procedures on the Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator, including Onboard Imaging operations and CBCT.
- Perform daily warm-up procedures, noting approved parameters, and alert appropriate staff if anything falls outside of approved parameters.
- Follow safety precautions and hospital/VA identification policies.
Imaging and Treatment Techniques:
- Perform imaging techniques including MV, KV, CBCT, Electron, 3D Conformal, IMRT, and VMAT SRBT/SRS procedures.
- Experience with SGRT, preferably VisionRT products including The Client simulations and breath hold.
CT Treatment Planning and Immobilization:
- Perform CT treatment planning scans for treatment planning/tumor localization.
- Prepare and customize patient immobilization devices.
Therapeutic Radiation Dose Delivery:
- Deliver the prescribed therapeutic radiation dose for cancer treatment.
- Verify patient consent prior to initiating CT Simulation.
Documentation and Record Maintenance:
- Use Electronic Medical Record Systems (ARIA) to maintain patient records and files.
- Utilize electronic radiation treatment charts for set-up instructions and treatment verification.
Patient Assistance and Safety:
- Assist patients to and from the treatment room and transfer them to and from the treatment table as necessary, using transfer aids.
- Ensure proper use and administration of contrast materials as per protocol.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Take port/verification films as per departmental procedures.
- Comply with all Seattle VAMC PPE and vaccination rules and regulations.
Requirements:
- Must be a graduate of an approved program in Therapeutic Radiologic Technology, evidenced by a certificate or an associate degree from an institution accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
- Must be certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy with a minimum of two years of experience.
- Must have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from either the American Heart Association or the Military Training Network program for healthcare providers.
- Must have at least the following experience, expertise, and knowledge:
- Three (3) year of experience: Knowledge of overall characteristics and clinical relevance of radiation oncology treatment machines and equipment. Preferably Varian TrueBeam
- Three (3) year of experience in the delivery of prescribed therapeutic radiation for cancer and abnormal cell growth treatments.
- Three (3) year of experience in 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy (3D-CRT), Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT), and Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT), Preferably Varian TrueBeam
- Three (3) year of experience using radiation oncology specific electronic medical record, preferably Varian Aria.
- Three (3) year of experience with a Client CT Simulator (or equivalent).
- Preferred experience, expertise and knowledge. Prior VA experience may be considered more favorable.
