Pay: $45.00 - $50.00 per hour
Location: Lt. Col. Luke Weathers Jr. VA Medical Center (Includes affiliated Community-Based Outpatient Clinics - CBOCs)
Schedule: Monday - Friday | 7:30 AM-4:00 PM (Full-Time | On-Site)
Position Overview:
Veterans Engineering is seeking a Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist (CDIS) who is a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team supporting the Lt. Col. Luke Weathers Jr. VA Medical Center in Memphis, TN.
This position plays a pivotal role in improving the accuracy, clarity, and completeness of clinical documentation to ensure optimal patient care, accurate coding, and appropriate reimbursement. You will work closely with physicians, coders, utilization review, and multidisciplinary care teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the nursing subject matter expert on clinical documentation standards.
- Collaborate with physicians, HIM coding staff, Revenue Utilization Review (RUR), and other clinical staff to assess documentation accuracy.
- Conduct concurrent and retrospective reviews of patient medical records.
- Identify documentation gaps and support clarification through query processes.
- Educate providers and care teams on documentation best practices and regulatory compliance.
- Support the accurate assignment of DRGs and coding, enhancing third-party billing and VA revenue collection.
- Ensure clinical documentation aligns with quality metrics and outcome reporting standards.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal coding regulations, VA documentation practices, and CDI trends.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Active, unrestricted RN license in any U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth with reciprocity in Tennessee.
- Proven experience in Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI), utilization review, or case management.
- Working knowledge of VA documentation systems, medical terminology, coding principles, and healthcare compliance standards.
- Strong communication, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
Preferred Certifications:
- CDIS certification through ACDIS (strongly preferred)
Additional credentials from one or more of the following:
- AHIMA (e.g., RHIA, CCS)
- AAPC (e.g., CPC, CRC)
