Location: United States Penitentiary Atwater. (This is a federal corrections setting).
Compensation: $35.48 per hour

- Vacation - effective after one year of service with Nitelines USA, Inc.: Two (2) weeks paid vacation after one (1) year of service with a contractor or successor, three (3) weeks after five (5) years, and four (4) weeks after 15 years.
Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm (40 hours per week)
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited LVN program
- LVN license in the state of California
- BLS
Duties:
All duties will be performed in accordance with standards and methods generally accepted within the contractor's field of expertise. Provision of professional Licensed Vocational /Practical Nurse services to the inmate population, as follows:
- Evaluation of patients and provision of therapeutic treatment as ordered by Health Services clinical staff.
- Administers medications as prescribed or ordered for the patients, including immunizing agents and performs skin testing. Perform venipuncture and administer and withdraw intravenous fluids.
- Counseling patients as needed regarding diagnosis.
- Securing a health history from the inmate patient and recording findings in the medical record.
- Recording diagnostic testing, i.e., venipuncture for laboratory studies, visual acuity testing, electrocardiogram (EKG), assisting with x-ray procedures, including positioning and prep of patient, per instructions from the health care providers (Mid-Level Practitioner, X-ray Technologist, or Physician)
- Processes lab work and/or filing on a daily basis, and keeps accurate logs of all reports in accordance with Bureau of Prisons, and JCAHO policy. Screen clinical laboratory tests and results, discriminates between normal and abnormal lab values, and notifies the Physician, or Mid-Level Practitioner.
- Ensure all sharps are secured, accounted for, stored, and disposed of according to institutional and national policy.
- Assist the Physician and Mid-Level Practitioners in the management and oversight of chronic care clinics. Possess basic knowledge of treatment of chronic health problems such as hypertension, diabetes, asthma.
- Review clinical records to ensure data is entered legibly and in the appropriate section of the medical record.
- Knowledge of optometry to screen for distance and near vision, and color blindness.
- Ability and skill to operate EKG, hearing test, Clinitek equipment, and other laboratory equipment.
- Knowledge of mental health disorders and the ability to screen for gross mood changes.
- Ability to provide basic first aid, preventive care guidance in treating a variety of common illnesses/injuries.
- Conducts sick call triage using the information on the sick call request forms and assigns patient appointment times for the Heal the Services Department. Logs inmates' arrivals and departures to the department and monitors the patients flow in and out of the department.
- Carries out Physician and other practitioner’s orders according to the condition of the patient. Observes, reports, and records patient conditions and vital signs, in the medical record to include assisting with scheduling and triage of patients reporting to triage/sick call.
- Participates in Improving Organizational Performance (IOP) by collecting and aggregating data.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients in their care.
- Retrieves medical records for scheduled patients for the day. Assists with ensuring appropriate records are taken to the pharmacy in a timely manner. Assists with the filing of medical records.
