NEEDED: PHLEBOTOMIST
LOCATION: 741-925 Access Road, A-25, Herlong, CA 96113
SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM, not to exceed 40 hours per week.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a valid license to practice in any state as a Medical Assistant, Laboratory Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, or Phlebotomist, or hold national certification.
- Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Resume: Must show evidence of experience with specimen collection, packaging and shipment to referral laboratories with knowledge of maintaining appropriate records
- Provide three (3) letters of reference.
JOB DUTIES:
- Provide Phlebotomy Services in a method commensurate with the local community. These services, although not directly supervised, will be reviewed by a physician on staff at the institution. The performance of these services will also be verified by the designated (COR).
- Assist the Physician, Advanced Practice Provider, and/or Nurse/ Paramedic with patient flow in a clinic setting by measuring the patient’s vital signs and weight, assisting with EKGs (if covered under licensure scope of practice), and scanning laboratory results in the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
- Organize, schedule, and perform laboratory studies, basic blood draws, specimen collection and process within the Health Service Unit or open, semi-open and locked units, to include A&O in-processing, DNA per procedure, vaccine programs and PPD updates.
- Keep the work area neatly organized
- Spin down blood, prepare and ensure specimens are packed and transported according to the contract or BOP Reference Lab and document per Health Services Unit Laboratory Procedures. Ensure that lab requests are completed properly and all reports are returned from the contract lab, provider notified, log results in as received, follow up appropriately, and file results in lab and the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
- Maintain the needle/syringe, security, accountability, and inventory
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of the Health Services Manual and Unit Procedures necessary to accomplish the mission described herein, ensuring that the Laboratory Procedure Manual is updated accordingly.
- Assist the Health Service Administrator (HSA) or his/her designee in the coordination of BOP and Contract Reference Lab contact, CLIA re-certification, maintenance of equipment, including routine equipment checks, and notification of needed supplies.
- Assist the HSA and Clinical Director with providing input for policies that deal with the laboratory program.
- Effectively work with both staff and inmates in the performance of contract services
