Position Title: Infection Control Preventionist
Pay Rate : $40.46 hr -$42.51 hr

Work Location: 516 E Nizhoni Blvd, Gallup, NM 87301
Work Hours: Division of Quality Management - Infection Control requires 8-hour shift Monday through Friday with
occasional evening and weekend coverage to meet Infection Control needs of the service unit.
Certification Requirements:
BLS, Certified Infection Control Preventionist or CIC credentialed
Minimum 3 years of experience related to Infection Prevention.
Statement of Duties:
Provides leadership in the ongoing review and development of clinical practice in compliance of infection control
regulations and by functioning as an expert clinician and role model in the clinical setting.
Uses relevant research findings in the provision of infection control services by initiating, conducting and disseminating
the findings of locally based research in infection prevention practices, treatments, and disease management.
Adapts and applies related scientific research to infection control and prevention/services and management.
Monitors and documents surveillance/performance improvement activities to ensure compliance with the standards by
making regular scheduled and impromptu rounds in addition to the tracer rounds to assure staff is up-to-date and
compliant with infection prevention issues, observe aseptic techniques/standard precautions, and checks quality control
programs.
Collaborates with other departments in the hospitals performance improvement activities and maintains records, data,
and correspondence pertinent to the Performance Improvement and Infection Control programs and develops and
maintains spreadsheets and data-based applications. Analyzes data from surveillance reports for deviation from
expected baseline and initiates appropriate action when measures are required to protect patients, or employees.
Assures that infection control program is in compliance with TJC, CMS, OSHA, CDC, IHS, and GSU standards and policies.
Conducts surveillance of patients to determine the incidence of infection to identify hospital and community-acquired
infections and to identify persons who are at high risk for infections. Participates on clinical/patient rounds, and
completes medical record reviews when necessary. Works with the unit nurses in the follow-up of any hospital-acquired
infection.
