NEEDED: Pharmacy Technician
LOCATION: Route 15, 2 miles North of Allenwood, PA 17810
SCHEDULE:
- 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, between 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Schedule subject to change based on the variable needs of the institution
- Must be available for emergencies as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have completed a formal Pharmacy Training Program or a medical/technical background obtained through on the job training in the Pharmaceutical field.
- Must be certified by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (NPTCB).
- College education in the sciences and mathematics is desirable, but not required.
- Must have at least six (6) months of Pharmacy Technician experience,
- Must have a current CPR certification
- Experience working in a correctional environment is preferred, but not required.
JOB DUTIES:
- All duties shall be performed in accordance with standards and methods generally accepted within the field of Pharmacy Technician Services, and compliance with all Federal and State policy and regulations.
- Will be responsible for reading and interpreting prescriptions and medication orders written by medical staff, selecting and retrieval of medications of correct strength and dosage form prescribed, transcribing
- prescription data to labels using the computer system, preparing prescriptions for review by a Pharmacist or Physician prior to dispensing, and giving pertinent patient instructions when appropriate.
- Shall assist in the running of pill lines within the institutions for self-carry pick up upon proper orientation by the Chief Pharmacist.
- Will assist the Pharmacist in ensuring that only medications listed in the approved Bureau of Prisons Formulary are dispensed and will ensure that requests for Non-Formulary Medications are initiated and
- submitted to the BOP Chief Pharmacist for approval.
- Should be proficient in maintaining adequate inventories of all medications and medical supplies and preparing the proper paperwork for replenishment of inventory.
- Will assist with preparing of orders and delivering them into the institutions or preparing them for overnight mailing to remote facilities.
- Will assist in updating patient education literature, assisting in improvement of performance studies and also assist the Pharmacist in meeting policy guidelines for the inmates.
- Prepare recommended supply lists to order pharmaceuticals, maintain the pharmacy areas in a clean and orderly fashion, maintain stock of appropriate forms utilized in the pharmacy department, and shall in the absence of the pharmacist maintain the Pharmacy Operation, but must have the Medical Officer review all prescriptions filled prior to dispensing to the inmate population.
- Assist the Pharmacist in maintaining stock of up-to date medications (checking for outdates per policy in the central pharmacy, pyxis machines, emergency bags, and automated dispensing systems.
- Assist the Pharmacist in preparing unit dose or pre-packaged medications and refilling of pyxis machines.
- Maintain accountability of needle and syringe inventories and DEA controlled substance inventories.
- Discrepancies are to be immediately reported to the Chief Pharmacist.
- Will be trained and utilize the pharmacy computer system and additional automation equipment.
- Will communicate the needs of Allenwood sites and remote fill sites to the pharmacist and respond to computer or phone requests and inquiries.
