NEEDED: Medical Laboratory Technician
LOCATION: 5880 State Hwy 67 South, Florence, Colorado 81226
SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday (except Federal holidays), between 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Six months of practical experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
- Copy of Medical Laboratory Technician licenses/certifications.
- Copy of a current CPR card
JOB DUTIES: Shall be responsible for, but is not limited to:
- Shall be required to perform basic blood draws for staff and inmates, spin down blood, prepare and package specimens for shipping, and deliver subject shipping containers to the complex front gate for shipment.
- Required to draw blood open, semi-open and locked units, which will require direct contact with inmates.
- Responsible for keeping the work area neatly organized, maintaining the needle/syringe inventory, properly documenting lab request logs, completing related paperwork and filing, and conducting routine equipment checks.
- Required to collect data relating to laboratory efforts (usage, types of labs studies, prompt receipt of orders and timely return of results by our contract labs, etc.).
- Must be able to work effectively with both staff and inmates in the performance of BPA services.
- Shall perform minor clerical duties, such as use of BOP Electronic Medical Record (BEMR) and SENTRY: by scheduling patients on callouts for the laboratory and for other staff members as needed; by scanning documents into BEMR as needed; by stocking supplies into storage area as needed; and by answering phones as needed.
- Must be able to adapt to newly establish policies and guidelines (i.e., Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (JCAHO), Bureau of Prisons (BOP), American Correctional Association (ACA), etc.) to the existing Medical Laboratory Technician Program, as applicable, and help provide support to implement procedures accordingly.
