NEEDED: Clinical Laboratory Scientist

LOCATION: Old Highway 75, Butner, NC 27509

SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day, Sunday through Saturday, including federal holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
  • Provide documentary evidence of completion of a clinical laboratory training program.
  • Provide documentary evidence of completion of clinical laboratory certification exam.
  • Provide documentary evidence of experience within the past three (3) years in preforming clinical laboratory testing on human specimens.
  • Ability to perform clinical laboratory testing on human specimens.
  • Provide documentary evidence of CPR certification.

JOB DUTIES - Shall be responsible for, but not limited to the following tasks:

  • Clinical Laboratory Testing
  • Shall provide professional clinical laboratory testing services to inmates.
  • Will function as a generalist performing testing in all disciplines of the clinical laboratory including hematology, transfusion services, coagulation, urinalysis, infectious disease, serology, and chemistry.
  • The nature of the work demands an advanced thorough knowledge of clinical laboratory sciences as they relate to the performance of laboratory analysis on human blood, tissues, and body fluids.
  • A specialized knowledge of clinical correlation which relates laboratory test data to human physiology, a broad knowledge of laboratory testing methodologies, laboratory equipment/instrumentation maintenance and quality assurance procedures is required.
  • Experience in performing external proficiency testing programs to maintain accreditation of the laboratory.
  • Experience in conducting quality control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products by implementing instrument, reagent, and product testing systems.
  • Ordering laboratory studies in the Laboratory Information System.
  • Drawing blood samples on ordered studies.
  • Preparing samples for processing, sharps accountability.
  • Maintaining logs and records, filling out appropriate laboratory request forms.
  • Preparation of the call out (draw list and labels), maintenance of a waiting list.
  • Restocking supplies as needed.
  • Daily maintenance of laboratory equipment, including advising the Laboratory Supervisor when equipment requires professional maintenance or repair.
  • Biological specimen preparation and packaging for shipment to contract laboratories.
  • Processing incoming referral specimens, processing outgoing specimen containers to referral facilities.
  • Maintenance of laboratory logs and other records as necessary for complying with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA) guidelines.
  • Inform the Laboratory Supervisor of all information pertaining to the services rendered, i.e., specimen(s) obtained, and reporting any problems arising regarding laboratory services.
  • Responsible for providing technical and clerical support to the laboratory.
