NEEDED: DENTAL ASSISTANT

LOCATION: 2113 N. Hwy 175, Seagoville, TX 75159

SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM -4:00 PM, not to exceed 40 hours per week.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess and maintain current CPR certification (either from American Red Cross or American Health Heart Association).
  • Have certification from an accredited Dental Assistant program.
  • Have a minimum of one year experience.
  • Be computer literate, and knowledge of record keeping.
  • Must have knowledge of dental anatomy, related oral anatomy, technical methods and practices of dentistry, and the working characteristics of dental instruments and materials sufficient to make necessary preparations and provide chair-side assistance to the dental staff.
  • Possess skill and dexterity in manipulating materials and instruments intra-orally to remove sutures, change dressings and perform radiographic work.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of record keeping procedures, administrative practices in scheduling appointments, dental terminology utilized in charting, taking patient history, treatment documentation and triage care of dental emergencies.
  • Maintain knowledge of dental instruments and know the purpose of each instrument.
  • Maintain knowledge of security and safety procedures relating to the control of needles, syringes, toxins, caustics, and flammable materials, as well as the overall security of the institution.

DUTIES:

  • Documents dental care services by charting in patient records; taking patient vitals; preparing duty status forms and consent forms; updating and maintaining patient's medical history.
  • Entering patient appointments and daily treatment data into the computer; responding to electronic requests to staff; tracking and scheduling screening oral exams; making copies of and scanning dental forms; updating inmate treatment lists; processing sick-call patients; answering phones.
  • Educates patients by giving oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative instructions.
  • Ensures operation of dental equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Maintains dental supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies and daily inventory of dental instruments.
  • Provides instrumentation by sterilizing and delivering instruments to treatment area; positioning instruments for dentist's access; suctioning; applying rubber dam; passing instruments.
  • Provides materials by selecting, mixing, and placing materials on instruments and in the
  • patient's mouth.
  • Provides diagnostic information by taking intraoral and panorex radiographic x-rays; pouring, trimming, and polishing study casts.
  • Provide preventative maintenance with scope of knowledge on autoclaves, hand pieces, and central suction. Conduct weekly spore test; weekly maintain vacuum traps and quarterly water line test.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
