NURSE PRACTITIONER

NEEDED: NURSE PRACTITIONER

LOCATION: 808 Union Street, San Diego, CA 92101

SCHEDULE: 30 hrs per week, Monday-Friday, 5 days per week, 6 hrs per day, 7:30 AM – 2:00 PM

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Must be licensed to practice medicine in the State of California.
  • Providing verification of credentials (education, current licensor/status competency, continuing medical education).
  • Must have 1 year family medicine experience or 1 year of urgent care experience.

DUTIES: Shall be responsible for, but is not limited to:

  • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services for the inmate population.
  • Conduct medical histories, examine patients, and order and interpret laboratory tests, x-ray and other diagnostic testing.
  • Diagnosis and treat patients in an efficient, timely, and professional manner, provide treatment plans and prescribe medications utilizing the Bureau of Prisons formulary.
  • Clinically manage injuries by suturing, splinting, and immobilizing
  • Attending medical emergencies.
  • Record progress notes, recommend clinically necessary outside consultation, instruct and counsel, and order or carry out therapy.
  • Emergency consultation to be performed by the NP in instances deemed necessary.
  • Perform minor surgery utilizing local anesthesia during consultation visits.
  • Work collaboratively with the staff physician(s) and consulting physician(s) in planning, instituting, evaluating, and revising program plans.
  • Assists in determining conditions, resources, and policies essential to delivery of the health care services.
  • Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems.
  • Manages the daily operation of the clinic and conducts daily sick call; which may include securing health histories from the patient, recording findings and providing clinical evaluations
  • Provides a wide range of emergency services, in the absence of the physician
  • Responsible for receiving patients and explaining procedures to alleviate undue anxiety, submitting reports and evaluations as requested.
