NEEDED: PHARMACY TECHNICIAN

LOCATION: 501 Gary Hill Road, Edgefield, South Carolina, 29824

STATUS: 38 hours per week

SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, between 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Typically 7:30AM – 4:00PM)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • US CITIZEN. We do not sponsor HB visas
  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent, with successful completion of a Pharmacy Technician training course or skills acquired through on the job training. 
  • Have experience working as a Pharmacy Technician for at least three years or have a certificate of training for Pharmacy Technician services,
  • Have a current CPR certification
  • Experience working in a correctional environment is preferred, but not required. 
  • Must possess computer and typing skills,
  • Have knowledge of methods, techniques, and procedures to perform job activities on various types of medical equipment and automated systems and of safety principles and infection control in the patient care environment. 
  • Possess the ability to relate and deal effectively with Physicians, peers, inmates, and others; to recognize, report, and record changes in patient’s physical and emotional condition; and to administer medication.

 DUTIES:

  • Assist the pharmacist in ordering, stocking, storing, processing, filling, dispensing, and distributing of prescription and non-prescription medications while demonstrating knowledge of the budgetary guidelines and BOP Formulary constraints.
  • Read and interpret prescriptions and medication orders written by medical staff, selection and retrieval of medications of correct strength and dosage from prescribed, transcribe prescription data to labels using computer systems, prepare prescriptions for review by a pharmacist prior to dispensing, and provide pertinent patient instructions when appropriate.
  • Assist the pharmacist in ensuring that only medications listed in the approved BOP Formulary are dispensed and ensure that requests for Non-Formulary medications are initiated and submitted to the Pharmacist for approval.
  • Prepare supply lists to request pharmaceutical supplies and materials for purchase.
  • Maintain pharmacy areas in a clean and orderly fashion consistent with departmental safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Assist the pharmacist in maintaining adequate inventories of all medications and supplies and monitor stock of up-to-date medications (checking for outdates per policy) in the main pharmacy and FPC, crash carts, emergency bags, Automated Dispensing Systems, and other locations where needed.
  • Assist the pharmacist with maintaining stock of forms as needed and updating Pill Line/Restricted Medication cards for inmates as well as filing Medication Administration Records into the Medical Record.
  • Assist the pharmacist in preparing unit dose or pre-packaged medications with appropriate medications, dosage form and quantity.
  • Assist the pharmacist in answering inquiries within their scope of practice concerning various medications.
  • Maintain the narcotics count and the needle and syringe inventories.
  • Maintain and re-stock adequate supplies and medications for the Automated Medication Administration Cabinets, emergency cabinets and ScriptPro.
  • Possess a working knowledge and maintain technical computer skills pertaining to pharmacy issues.
  • Must participate in Improving Organizational Performance Data and Quality Assurance Activities as directed by the Pharmacist or HSA.
  • Perform minor clerical duties; such as use of BOP electronic medical record, computer documentation and scheduling, scanning documents, filing, typing, call-outs, institutional memorandums, answering phones, scheduling patients and maintaining stock records.
