WANTED: Dental Hygienist

LOCATION: 1341 Hwy 95 N, Bastrop, TX 78602

SCHEDULE: 40 hours per week, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, 5 days per week

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • US CITIZEN
  • Must be certified/licensed as a Dental Hygienist in the State of Texas
  • Three letters of references from professional peers,
  • Dental radiology certification required;
  • Anesthesia certification preferred,
  • Minimum of three years of experience is preferred, yet not required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide dental prophylaxis, other preventive oral health services, and other periodontal services on inmates who are referred by the dental staff
  • Provide thorough individualized oral hygiene instructions to each patient
  • Monitor oral hygiene and periodontal condition on each patient seen for dental prophylaxis
  • Complete necessary dental x-rays as specified by the dentist
  • Provides oral health care services such as suture removal, administration of local anesthetic, and other services (if trained)
  • Sterilize instruments used for prophylaxis and other instruments as specified by the dental staff
  • Oversee inmate health service’s workers’ housekeeping and infection control procedures
  • Perform necessary paperwork related to scheduling patients for dental prophylaxis and other dental services as directed by the dental staff
  • Track scheduling of patient care
  • Ability to collect and track data and enter data in the agency’s electronic system
  • Must have knowledge and experience in maintaining medical records and confidentiality
  • Any other reasonable tasks needed by the health services unit, or assigned by supervisory staff, that is related to health services.
  • Knowledgeable of and follows BOP, Dental Service, and institutional policies to include Employee Standards of Conduct, security, infection control, regulated waste management, and data management
  • Physical demands of this position are largely sedentary in nature, however, long periods of standing, walking, sitting, and bending are required. Frequent mental and physical strain is inherent to duty and responsibility. Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to lift boxes and equipment. As a general rule, this lifting will not exceed 35 pounds
  • Professional contacts are with inmate patients requiring dental care, contract workers, and other professional and non-professional civilians, Public Health Service, and Bureau employees.
