NEEDED: PHYSICIANS

LOCATION: 1640 Skyview Drive, Bruceton Mills, WV 26525

SCHEDULE: 7.5 – 10 hour session per day, Monday – Friday, between 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM, in 120 day increments.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid and current registration as a professional Physician in a state, District of Columbia,
  • Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • NO adverse action taken by any regulatory body involving certification, this includes, but is not limited to, suspensions, revocations, and/or restrictions on licensure.
  • Minimum of 3 years recent experience in acute care, ambulatory care, Medical/Surgical or psychiatric care facility. Experience in a correctional health care setting preferred, but not required.
  • Documentation of medication administration and intra=venous competency.
  • Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified, in accordance with the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • ACLS certification preferred.
  • Shall provide a resume and requested documentation along with copy of all diplomas and/or certificates to support stated qualification.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide Physician services which includes! but is not limited to:

  • Comprehensive assessment and management of uncomplicated acute and stable chronic health problems.
  • Performs initial comprehensive medical and psycho-social screening, physical examination, and risk evaluation.
  • May conduct daily sick call.
  • Provide a wide range of emergency services, including primary care for trauma and life-saving procedures.
  • Performs minor surgical procedures such as: incision and drainage; suturing of lacerations; removal of cysts, and removal/repair of ingrown toenails.
  • Prescribes medications and treatment for illnesses.
  • Establishes diagnostic impressions and requests appropriate diagnostic tests (e.g., laboratory, x-ray, visual acuity, and electrocardiogram) and ability to interpret results and selected laboratory findings to include the following:
  • Clinical Laboratory-urinalysis, complete blood counts, staining and examination of smears for bacteria, blood glucose, audio hearing test; 
  • Radiology -preliminary interpretation of radiograph to identify gross abnormalities such as fractures, etc.
  • Optometry - screening for distance and near vision by use of charts and visual screening machines. 
  • Electrocardiograph Operations - operates electrocardio-graphic machine and has basic concepts of interpretation of the tracing to detect abnormalities of the gum and teeth by means of percussion and palpation and interpretation of dental radiographs.
  • Mental Health - capable of screening for gross mood change, disoriented patterns of behavior of speech. Takes brief psychiatric, drug, alcohol abuse history. General knowledge to identify a particular mental disorder such as depression or anxiety and provides emergency treatment and care.
  • Will assist and work collaboratively with the Clinical Director in management of selected complex medical problems.
  • Makes decisions concerning medical care needs of the inmate as well as decisions regarding special needs.
  • Functions as a member of a primary care team with a Mid-Level provider, evaluates referrals from clinical staff, including physician assistants and nurses.
  • Enters pertinent clinical information in an electronic medical record and must ensure data is current and legible.
  • Providing Physician services may require a significant amount of walking or bending, standing for two to three hours at a time may be required.
