Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN / LVN)

NEEDED: Licensed Practical Nurse / Licensed Vocational Nurse 

LOCATION: 1700 West HWY 72, Three Rivers, Texas 78071

SCHEDULE: 8 Hours per day, Sunday - Saturday, between 6:00 AM – 10:00 PM, not to exceed 40 hours per week.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • U.S. Citizen
  • Must have graduated from an accredited Practical Nursing school or program.
  • Shall maintain current licensure as a Practical Nurse in the State of Texas.
  • One year, or more, of experience is required.
  • Must be certified in Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation in accordance with the American Heart Association.
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening and law enforcement agency background check.

DUTIES: Shall be responsible for, but is not limited to:

  • Provide direct patient care services in accordance with legal, ethical, and institutional standards
  • through the evaluation of patients and therapeutic treatment as ordered by Health Services clinical staff
  • Perform nursing duties within the scope of the current licensure
  • Administer medications as prescribed i.e., by mouth, intradermally, subcutaneously, or intramuscularly
  • Administer medications at pill line
  • Assist with distribution of medications at pill line
  • Monitor and evaluate the response to therapy
  • Perform skin testing
  • Perform venipuncture for the purpose of obtaining laboratory specimens
  • Record and document patient care activities on appropriate records such as health history
  • Record diagnostic testing, i.e., venipuncture for laboratory studies, visual acuity testing, EKGs (per instructions from mid-level practitioners or physicians)
  • Process lab work to include filing on a daily basis.
  • Maintain accurate logs of all reports in accordance with Bureau of Prisons and JACHO policy Screen laboratory tests/results for normal/abnormal lad values and notify the physician or physicians
  • Ensure all sharps are secured, accounted for, stored and disposed of according to institutional and
  • national policy
  • Assist the mid-level practitioners and physicians in the management and oversight of chronic care clinics
  • Review clinical records to ensure data is entered legibly and in the appropriate section of the medical record
  • Possess knowledge of treatment of chronic health problems, i.e., hypertension, diabetes, and asthma
  • Initiate emergency care as needed according to community standards
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Adhere to infection control policies and procedures
  • Ability and skill to operate EKG and laboratory equipment
  • Knowledge of mental health disorders and must have the ability to screen for gross mood changes
  • Ability to provide basic first aid, prevention care, and guidance in treating a variety of common illnesses/injuries
  • Rotates pharmacy stock and pharmacy supplies
  • Maintain pyxis and medication in pyxis
  • Pharmacy duties as assigned
  • Perform duties as required, but accept only those nursing assignments that are commensurate with his/ her educational preparation, training, experience, and nursing licensure laws
  • All duties shall be performed in accordance with standards and methods generally accepted within the field of Licensed Practical Nurse services, and compliance with all Federal and State policy and regulations.
  • Shall adhere to all standards and regulations associated with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) and American Correctional Association Foundation/Core Standards for Adult Correctional Institutions.
  • Must have the ability to work with an inmate population from a variety of cultural, regional, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
