Physician (Psychiatry)

Core Duties

Perform a full range of physician services in accordance with privileges granted by the MTF.

Clinically direct, perform, or assist in the instruction of other health care professionals within the scope of the

clinical privileges or responsibilities.

Examine, diagnose, treat or prescribe courses of treatment within the scope of training, experience, and privileges.

Provide preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care

skills through education and counseling.

Order diagnostic tests as applicable as well as request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or

other health resources as indicated.

Technically proficient in directing and teaching other medical staff, providing educational lectures and participating

in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members. Such direction and interaction will adhere to

Government and professional clinical standards and accepted clinical protocols.

Coordinates with facility and community resources to provide multi- disciplinary comprehensive care to all patients,

taking into account factors such as new and/or emerging procedures and techniques and the patient's personal

history, as well as information gained through diagnostic tests.

Performs emergency services or crisis intervention, including life-saving emergency procedures when necessary.

Required to move, manipulate, lift patients with the assistance of other medical staff.

Promotes preventative and health maintenance care, stresses positive health behaviors and self-care through

education and counseling. Encourages patients to make difficult lifestyle changes to improve their health and

provides follow-up treatment and care to patients to ascertain compliance with therapy and response to treatment.

Provides advice by telephone and/ or in person to other physicians, non-physician providers, and other professional

medical staff on the care of patients with urgent, emergent, and non-urgent medical problems.

Serves as member of the professional medical staff and/ or faculty to provide advisory and consultative services on

various meetings, committees, conferences, and/ or boards that relate to duties under this task order.

Evaluates the care provided to patients at MTF, identifies opportunities to change the care delivered, advises on

difficult or complex cases, and recommends corrective action when problems exist.

Participate in Quality Assurance (QA) functions, performance improvement programs, risk management programs,

and peer review programs. Make recommendations on improvement of work methods and organizational features.


Additional Qualifications

Degree: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.).

Education: Graduation from a medical school in the United States, Canada, or approved by the Liaison Committee

on Medical Education of the American Medical Association (AMA), graduation from a college of osteopathy

approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), or graduation from a medical school with evidence of

Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification.

Certification: The DoD only recognizes certifications issued by boards that are members of the American Board of

Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the AOA Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists

Internship/Residency/Fellowship: Completion of an accredited residency approved by the Accreditation Council for

Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).



Experience: As required to meet clinical competency requirements specified in the credentialing instructions.

Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice medicine.
