Phlebotomist

NEEDED: Phlebotomist / Lab Technician
LOCATION: 535 North Alameda Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012
SCHEDULE: 5 days per week, 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM, not to exceed 30 hours per week.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- US Citizen
- Must have graduated from an accredited school or program and be a Certified Phlebotomist/Laboratory Technician or qualified Medical Assistant.
- Must have a minimum of one year of experience.
- Certified in CPR / BLS
- Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English
- Perform all blood draws, specimen collection for urine, stools or any other laboratory diagnostic tests (including culture/sensitivity, specimen of Pap smears, histopath, required by the clinical staff under the direction of the Clinical Director in the treatment plan of the patient.
- Screening female patients for pregnancy, if clinical staff were not able to collect urine specimen during intake screening (to use urine HCG test or serum HCG test).
- Performing dipstick urine analysis, guiac test (blood in stools).
- Maintaining laboratory equipment through inspection prior to use, cleaning (wiping) after each patient’s use and reporting defective equipment to the Health Service Administrator or Assistant Health Services Administrator.
- Performing quality assurance on a scheduled basis, maintaining proper infection control procedures and ensuring infectious waste is disposed of property.
- Responsible for preparation, proper placement of specimen in containers/boxes prior to pick up by local lab courier or mailing to mainland (Rochester Lab or Texas VA).
- He/she will also be responsible for notifying and making sure that specimens are picked up by lab courier for local contract laboratory.
- Assists in the filing of official laboratory reports after review (initialed and dated) by the physician.
- Assists in the filing of official laboratory requests/procedures done including the names of patients, registration numbers, current date samples/specimen were taken date sent, date lab results received.
- Documentation on a separate logbook for laboratory requests considered sensitive and requiring confidentiality.
